- Keep going till the cupboards are bare. - The more times you go to the store a week, the more money you spend. We have been able to make dishes with what we have on hand, even though our kitchens feel empty. This saves lots of money!
- Pick at least one night a week to serve a meatless dish.- Beans and whole wheat pastas are nutritious and CHEAP! Pick one of our great meatless dishes, soups, or salads for a healthy cost savings.
- Take advantage of sales on more expensive items like meat, and freeze. - "Buy one get one free," is our friend. Stock up when you see these types of sales. You will save money, and make fewer trips to the market.
- Buy canned goods by the case. - This is where a membership to your warehouse stores come in handy. When you buy these can goods by the case, you save money per can AND have them always on hand. It is amazing what you can make with a can of Tomato Sauce!
- Don't waste food. Look items up in the index before they spoil! - Food in the trash can is wasted money. Quickly look through your fridge daily to see what is looking a bit less than fresh. Then go to the ingredient index in the back of the book to find recipes to use that ingredient up. "Waste not, want not!"
